Darcy Sears’ work is driven by a need to mold life out of
clay. To watch life, unfold and discover moments of beauty in an ordinary day.

Her work ranges from realistic to whimsical, from classical
to abstract, from serious to playful. One series explores figures emerging from
vessels, as though they are breaking out of confining spaces. Another series
features figures in bathing suits, where the ceramic swimmer sculptures are
lighter in feeling, more colorful, and amusing. In some of the ceramic
sculptures, the artist incorporates mosaic tile so that the tiles are part of
the structure of the sculpture.

The artist is primarily interested in line and form, the
contours of the human body. They explore the figure in all its imperfections.
All sizes and shapes of the human figure are seen as beautiful and complete in
the artist's eyes. While models are used in the work, they may not be portrayed
in a realistic way. The goal is to capture their mood, spirit, and the essence
of who they are.

The artist often balances large forms on small bases,
inspired by the ancient symbol for women, "V". There is also an
interest in the alchemy of the finishes.
