Overview

The natural world is Kalani Engles' focus, as she embraces the unexpected vibrancy and shapes found within. She considers the geometry and pattern inherent in nature, and colors revealed in the understory. The angle made from the point of a thorn. The veins in a leaf. The interplay of diffused light and shadow beneath a canopy. Engles' paintings and prints have been part of solo exhibitions in California, Colorado, and France and her work is included in collections across the United States, including the National Museum of Women Archives in Washington, D.C. She studied under acclaimed artist Nathan Oliveira and Frank Lobdell while at Stanford University.

"I try to surprise the viewer by highlighting aspects of nature that they may not recognize as real."
