Leslie Rowland

With a graduate degree in environmental science, it’s no wonder that Leslie
Rowland’s art fuses her fascination with nature and technology. She layers paint and then carefully scrapes and sands it away – her own take on erosion – to reveal her final forms.
 
Within her environmental paintings, Rowland subtly plays with the interconnectedness of life. A butterfly upon closer inspection is made of the flowers that the creature pollinates. Expressing the beauty and intricacies of the natural world, Rowland hopes that people will appreciate and therefore strive to protect it. Her recent technology-influenced artwork looks to computer binary code as the connective tissue for humans, a universal language of hidden messages.
