Heaven and Earth:

The Art of Boundless Landscapes

September 15, 2023

Opening reception:

Friday, September 15, 5-7pm

Studio Shop Gallery, 244 Primrose Rd., Burlingame

Burlingame, CA –The Studio Shop Gallery presents Heaven and Earth, an exhibition of exceptional landscape paintings which explores how landscape art resonates with our essential humanness and interconnects the spiritual and physical realms. Most all landscape art contains the same fundamental visual elements–land, sky and horizon–which touch our psyches and souls in a very primal and powerful way.

Artists Peter Roux, Micah Crandall-Bear, Ellen Gunn, and Alan Mazzetti have masterfully captured these realms through their creations, demonstrating the intrinsic link between human experience and spiritual awareness. Each piece encapsulates the true essence and thought process behind the upcoming show.

In these artworks we not only experience expansiveness and a sense of flow, but also the profound significance of ancient practices, where breathing & grounding take center stage.”

HEAVEN

Encoded within spiritual texts, it is a common belief held by theologians that the sound of breath carries the true name of the Holy Spirit –our connection to the heavens.  Mindful breathing techniques reveal the ability to calm the nervous system, ground the spirit and center the mind.  By simply gazing outward over the horizon and inhaling with purpose, we can immediately transform our reality.

I’m interested in how we relate to the world, the outer spaces we take in. Clouds offer a challenging and expressive edge for a painter, and as in real life, they hold light in stunning and unique ways.” – Peter Roux

My atmospheric landscape paintings infuse a mysterious aura of place. Experiencing the sky’s transformation and capturing these moments, where fleeting effects of light, color, weather, and time of year bring a freshness to savor. It offers a gateway to expansiveness and serenity.

 EARTH

The ancestral practice of grounding, also known as earthing, emerges as a vital aspect of physical and mental well-being by connecting the body to the Earth’s natural energy sources. By showcasing artworks that embody this connection to nature and the environment, the exhibition underscores the importance of living in harmony with our surroundings and tapping into the energy that is all around us. These profound notions form the foundation for the artistic expressions showcased at the event.

I paint abstract landscape paintings examining Earth’s intrinsic resources and our disposition toward their accelerated transformation. Landscape details hint at daily and seasonal shifts in light, evoking a sense of evolution and balance, presenting imagery inspiring a deep and effusive connection to nature.”

 Micah Crandall-Bear

Using abstracted elements of our surrounding environment, concepts of time, space, motion and perception are being examined in my artwork, depicting mood rather than details.

– Alan Mazzetti
