Just in time for the beginning of summer, Studio Shop Gallery is pleased to present Floraison Urbaine, a vibrant exhibition showcasing new works by New York mixed media artist Gail Garcia and California abstract painter Katy Kuhn.
Floraison Urbaine /flɔ.ʁɛ.zɔ̃ yʁ.bɛn/ is a French term that captures the spirit of life and vibrancy flourishing within an urban setting — a perfect reflection of the energy these two artists bring to their latest work.
Gail Garcia’s newest series beautifully channels the pulse of city life: trees and flowers in full bloom, people adorned in colorful outfits, vibrant displays in shop windows, and the endless motion of street life. Her mixed media pieces exude rhythm, color, and a dynamic sense of movement that echoes the streets of New York, San Francisco, and beyond.
Similarly, Katy Kuhn’s paintings radiate this same life force through bold color palettes, layered textures, and organic abstract forms. Her piece Élan Vital draws on the concept of “vital force” — a creative, impulsive energy described by philosopher Henri Bergson as the driving force behind evolution and life itself. Kuhn’s works invite viewers to experience this powerful creative energy firsthand.
Together, Garcia and Kuhn create a rich dialogue between urban life and the natural world — a visual celebration of color, energy, and growth. Floraison Urbaine is a dynamic and compelling showcase that invites visitors to experience the vitality of summer in full bloom.
Both artists will be attending the Artist Reception on Thursday, July 10th from 6-8 PM. Join us for an evening of art, lively conversation, summer cocktails, and bites.
