Daniel Phill
“Painting is my medium. Connecting with nature and being at
one with my surroundings is a large part of my art. Being from the Pacific
Northwest I feel especially blessed with that connection. Having lived in the
Bay Area for over 30 years and having a studio with views of the bay, I feel
happy and so fortunate to have spent so much of my early career at Stanford
University, and that is part of what makes me feel forever young.
The painting I have submitted to this special
100th Anniversary Exhibition is Puffin Garden, 40x40 inches, acrylic on
canvas. I feel very proud of it. During the days I painted Puffin Garden, it
seemed like one of those freshly connected experiences. Puffins are known for
their longevity, beauty and clownish behavior. I feel so proud to be a
long-standing artist of Studio Shop Gallery." - Daniel Phill
Daniel Phill is drawn to the interplay of an optimistic color palette against a placid background which creates surreal, vibrant botanical environments. His work achieves spontaneity while playing with the boundaries of abstraction and representation. Extended drips of paint serve to imply stems while gestural paint-loaded brushstrokes suggest petals and blossoms.
Daniel Phill received a Bachelor of Fine Arts at San Francisco Art Institute and continued on to earn a Masters of Fine Art at Stanford University. He has shown in many solo exhibitions and is very well collected across the United States.
