Gerbi Tsesarskaia
Gerbi Tsesarskaia was born in Kiev, Ukraine and holds a Master's degree in mechanical engineering from St. Petersburg Marine Technical University in Russia. In 1985 she moved to Hungary and worked as a translator and interpreter, as well as a marionette puppet maker at the Budapest National Puppet Theater. After Moving to the US in 1990, she began working in ceramics and earned an MFA from Florida Atlantic University and Miami International University of Art and Design. Currently living and working as a ceramic artist in Florida, she continues to teach ceramics at the University of Miami and the Ceramic League of Miami.
The artist recognizes pottery as an ancient art form with rich traditions that manifest through the vessel forms of the bowl, pitcher, cup and vase. Her passion for ceramics stems from this rich history and the mediums ability to become translucent; radiating light and beauty. Her search for beauty within her work is an attempt to call the viewer to movements of quiet delight and contemplation.
