Ivy Jacobsen’s paintings are composed of many thin layers of oil paint, bronzing powder, acrylic paint, resin, and other mixed medias on panel. Through the multiple semi-transparent layers the trees and plant forms begin to occupy various spaces in the foreground and background, creating the illusion of depth.

A California native, Ivy settled into the San Francisco Bay Area after graduating from San Francisco State University. She continued her studies at the San Francisco Art Institute and studied painting and art history abroad in Paris, France. Collections include San Francisco General Hospital Acute Care Center in San Francisco, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, and the Four Seasons Hotel, Philadelphia, PA.

I balance magical elements with real world rendering of flora and fauna found in our natural world. I gain inspiration from plant study, whether that be from my daily walks in my neighborhood, the study of botanical illustrations, or my memories of plants and their life cycles.
